Maryann Garbutt Anderson

Ms. Maryann Garbutt Riner Anderson, age 90, of Sandersville, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Heritage Inn Nursing Home following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12 ^th at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jesse Richardson and Reverend Jason Loggins officiating.  Burial will be in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.

Ms. Anderson, a waco native, was the daughter of the late Reese Tucker Garbutt and the late Mattie Mae Veal Garbutt.  She was a graduate of the Sandersville High School Class of 1944 and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville.  While living in Sandersville, she was a member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church, was active in the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and worked in administration at Georgia Department of Transportation from which she retired.  After moving to Macon, Ms. Anderson worked for the Macon Telegraph and attended the 2 ^nd Baptist Church of Macon where she was a member of the Gerald Peyton Sunday School Class.  Ms. Anderson moved to Barnesville to be near family and was an active member at Shiloh Baptist Church until returning to Sandersville.  She is also predeceased by her siblings, Frances G. Wilson and Gordon S. “Buddy” Garbutt III.

Survivors are; her children, Nancy Riner and her husband John Mitchell of Barnesville, Chris W. Riner and his wife Brenda of Olive Branch MS. and Mark G. Riner and his wife Connie of Tennille; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Sandersville Gideons, P.O. Box 891, Sandersville, GA. 31082.
