Melvin Donald Bevill

Mr. Melvin Donald Bevill, age 88 of Sparta, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at his son’s home after a brief illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Pierce Memorial Methodist Church in Sparta, with Reverend Darrell McGinnis officiating and burial following in Mt. Hope Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Bevill’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10.00 a.m. until the hour of service.

Mr. Bevill was born in Baxley, the son of the late Ed and Tilly Tippins Bevill. He was an electrical engineer by trade but held professional licenses as an electrician, plumber and heating and air technician. Mr. Bevill enjoyed being outdoors, and especially hunting dove and quail. He was also an avid historian and enjoyed travelling. Mr. Bevill possessed a green thumb, especially when it came to growing muscadines. Of all of his many attributes he is best remembered for his compassion and love for those who were less fortunate than he was, which led to his involvement with Right to Life. He was a member of Chatham Artillery and Pierce Memorial Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bevill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Edwina Brock Bevill; and siblings, Nathan Bevill, Ernest Bevill, Evelyn Hill, Maxiene Blackstone, and Glenda Michelis.

Mr. Bevill is survived by his sons, Micheal Bevill and his wife Mickie of Eatonton, David Bevill and his wife Pam of Sparta, and Steven Bevill and his wife Gena of Ackworth; grandchildren, Zach Bevill, Aaron Bevill, Joshua Bevill and his wife Lyndsey, Amber Bevill, Jagger Bevill, McKenzie McMullen, McKale McMullen and Nathan McMullen; and sisters, Betty Roughen of Wilmington Island and Quida Troughton of Savannah.
