Mr. Melvin Cecil Quarles, Jr., age 81, of 310 Maurice Friedman Drive in Sandersville died Friday July 2 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday July 5 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Roy Smith will officiate. Pallbearers are Patrick Sheffield, Robert May, Jackson May, Larry Smith and Clark Guthrie.
Mr. Quarles was a native of Cobb County, Georgia, the son of the late Melvin Cecil Quarles, Sr. and the late Willa Alice Crow Quarles. He was a retired sales person for Dixie Bearings and a former driver for Waco Med Travel Company. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Quarles was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was predeceased by a daughter Sharon May.
Survivors are his wife, Bertha Jean Curbow Quarles of Sandersville, a daughter, Sarah J. Sheffield and her husband Frank of Tennille, a son, Joseph Marlin Quarles of Dalton, five grandchildren and a great grandchild.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday.
