Mr. Mervin Williford, age 87, of Henderson Grove Road, Sandersville, died Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his residence following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Kendall Heights Church of God with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Bobby Williford, Reverend Weston Williford, Reverend Stacy Williford, and Reverend Wallace Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Travis Williford, Jeremy Williford, Weston Williford, Caleb Cooper, Dwight Reese, and Hugh Brown.
Mr. Williford was born in Jefferson County, the son of the late Hartwell W. Williford and the late Florrie Mae Newsome Williford. Mervin was an auto mechanic working for various shops including the Georgia Department of Transportation. Later, Mr. Williford worked as the maintenance director for the Sandersville Housing Authority. He was a longtime member of Kendall Heights Church of God where he faithfully stood by his wife, Elizabeth, who pastored the church for 27 years. Mervin enjoyed singing and playing the harmonica and guitar as well as serving his church in its maintenance needs. He had a great love of motorcycles and his beloved pet dogs. Above all, he was a man of faith. Mr. Mervin is predeceased by his siblings, Walter Williford, Martha Lamb, and Hilton Williford.
Survivors include, his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Bridges Williford; sons, Billy Williford and his wife Teresa and Bobby Williford and his wife Sheryl all of Tennille; grandchildren, Shelley W. Hanson and her husband Jared, Travis Williford and his wife Laura, Jeremy Williford and his wife Ashley, Kelly W. Long and her husband Joe, Weston Williford and his wife Erica, Brad Crook, Brittany Williford, and Dalton Williford; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, J.W. Williford and his wife Anna of Thomson, Terrell Williford and his wife Helen of Gibson, Janette W. Jenkins and her husband Charlie of Thomson, Doris W. Smith, Catherine W. Norris and her husband James all of Sandersville, Wanda W. Curry and her husband W.L. of E. Dublin, and Wayne Williford and his wife Mavis of Warthen; and his faithful friend, Beth Spivey of East Dublin.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 23, 2018, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
