Michael Henry Blatt

Michael Henry Blatt, 73, of Woodlawn, VA, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after an extended illness.

Mike was born in Calhoun, GA on September 20. 1951. He grew up in Smyrna and Marietta, GA, and was a 1969 honor graduate of Sprayberry High School. He attended Wake Forest University, graduating with a B.A. Degree in English in 1973.

He taught high school English and coached basketball and tennis in Sandersville, GA, from 1975 to 1982, where he met his wife Candace. They moved to Jasper, GA, after their marriage, and Mike taught and coached at Pickens High School from 1982 to 1988. He was named Pickens County STAR teacher in 1985. From 1988 to 2006 he worked in insurance and financial sales and sales management, returning to teaching at Kokomo (IN) High School in 2006. He retired in 2014, having been named an Indiana All-Star teacher in 2012. Mike enjoyed sports writing and officiating youth sports in his spare time. He and Candace moved to Woodlawn in 2020.

He was predeceased by his parents, William Francis Blatt and Sara Asbell Blatt, and his brother Jim Blatt.

He is survived by his wife, Candace Marshall Blatt; his son Andrew Blatt of Seattle, WA; his son Samuel Blatt and daughter-in-law Mellina Fortunato of St. Petersburg, FL; his three granddaughters, Hazel, Eliana, and Yara; his sister Eleanor Blatt Wistrom of Oak Ridge, TN; and his sister-in-law, Joy Pendry (Barry) of Sandersville, GA.
