Michael James Cox

Mr. Michael James Cox, age 57, of Sandersville, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 11:00am at the Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the Washington County Memorial Garden. Revs. Danny Yates and Robert Dean will officiate. Mike's nephews will serve as pallbearers; Phil Smith, Dwight Pope Jr., Sig Pope, Bobby Dollar Jr., Michael Dollar, Joe F. Cox III, Brint Jones, John Pratt, and Steven Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Washington EMC.

Mike was born in Jefferson County the son of the late Joe Franklin Cox Sr. and the late Rhuea Hardy Cox. He was a dedicated employee of the Washington EMC where he provided facilities maintenance. Mike was a faithful Christian and enjoyed wood working, fishing, playing music and most of all children.

Survivors are; his wife Dianne Brooks Cox of Sandersville, sisters, Carol Cox Henderson (Bob), Bonnie Cox Smith (Ernest), Jane Cox Jones (Stan) all of Louisville, Pam Cox Pope (Dwight) of Augusta, and Ginger Cox Pratt (Win) of Louisville, his brother, Joe Franklin Cox Jr., (Patsy) also of Louisville, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephew and special friends, Stacey B. Taylor and Sandi D. Smith both of Sandersville and Sarah M. Handwerker of McIntyre.

The family will be at the Taylor residence 604 Warthen, St. Sandersville and will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7pm and also after the funeral service at the Church.

Donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

May and Smith Funeral Directors of Sandersville is in charge of these arrangements.
