Mr. James Michael “Mike” Stanley, age 72, of Evergreen Drive in Sandersville, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Augusta University Health, following a brief illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Brownwood Cemetery. Pastor Weston Williford will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, at the funeral home.
Mr. Stanley was born in Sandersville, the son of the late James Mark Stanley and the late Betty Jones Upshaw. He was a 1969 graduate of Washington County High School, and he attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran. While living in Sandersville, Mr. Stanley worked for Millers Food Store and Anglo-American Clays; as well as working for Pilz while living in Alabama. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, and watching various programs on television, especially anything to do with history or science. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanley is preceded in death by his son, Michael Grisdale.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife, Brenda Stanley; children, Brian Stanley and his wife Carmen, Ray Stanely, Amie S. Stevick and her husband John, Patricia Ridley, Serena Banks and her husband Curtis, and Patrina Owens and her husband Chris; brother, Mark Stanley and his wife Beverly; 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and a special aunt, Linda McDaniel.
