Milton Dewitt Avant

Mr. Milton Dewitt Avant, age 87, of 289 Power Point Road in Milledgeville died Monday February 18 in the Oconee regional Medical Center in Milledgeville.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday February 21 in the Island Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow at 1:00 P.M. Thursday in the Snow Hill Church Cemetery in Wilkinson County. Rev. Arthur Gunn and Rev. Billy Hargrove will officiate. Pallbearers will be Marc Sack, Ben Salter, Roy Avant, Charlie Johnson, Eric Lindsey and Barry Hill.
Mr. Avant was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Carl Avant and the l ate Sallie Wheeler Avant. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Willoughby Avant. He was a graduate of Sandersville High School and had worked for Millers Food Store and had worked as the manager of Tennille Red and White Food Store. Mr. Avant worked for Burgess Pigment Company for over 37 years and was a Councilman for the City of Sandersville for a number of years and served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Sandersville. He was a coach for the little league baseball team and the men’s softball league. He was a member of the Sandersville Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Twin City Country Club.
Survivors are his wife, Frances Fountain Avant of Milledgeville, a daughter, Debbie Avant Atkinson of Sandersville, a step daughter, Cassie Fountain Hargrove and her husband Thomas of Milledgeville, two step sons, Conn Fountain and his wife Judy of Macon and Matt Fountain of Gordon, ten grandchildren, Chris (Michelle) Durden, Kristy (Kelly) Wallace, Mike (Angie) Fountain, David (Sara) Rowan, Steven (Kelly) Rowan, Mitch Fountain, Skylar Fountain, T. J. (Jaimie) Hargrove, Carlie Hargrove Williamson and Catie Hargrove, eight great grandchildren, Kristen Durden, Josh Fountain, Allison Rowan, Eve Rowan, Ellie Hargrove, Brooklyn Williamson, Jack Wallace and Ariel Rowan.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday.
The family suggest donations be made to the Island Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1108, Milledgeville, Georgia 31059.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
