M.J. Etheridge Jr.

Mr. M.J. Etheridge Jr., age 85, of West Church Street, Tennille, died Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00am at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Rev. Mark Jones will officiate.

Mr. Etheridge was born in Washington County the son of the late Minor Jackson Etheridge Sr. and the late Cleo Jenkins Etheridge. He was a former employee of the Georgia Department of Transportation and a US Marine Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines. Mr. Etheridge was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Church’s Brotherhood.

Survivors are his wife Helen Robinson Etheridge of Tennille, children Dr. Victor I. Etheridge (Dorothy Christine) of Sandersville, Kay E. Jones (Reese) of Louisville and Minor John Etheridge (Jane) of Evans, grandchildren, Johnathan Blake Etheridge, Brett R. Jones, Bryan G. Jones, and J. Brad Jones, great grandchildren, Victoria Jones, Hunter Jones, Hannah Jones, Gracie Jones, Fisher Jones, Bailey Jones, and Brantley Jones, brothers, E. J. Etheridge of Tennille and Roy Etheridge of Sandersville and his sister Virginia E. Davis of Tennille.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home 1119 Riddleville Rd. Sandersville.
