Mr. Owen C. Lord Jr., age 75, of Tennille, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00pm at the Piney Mount United Methodist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Reverends Robert Wood, Jimbo Dominey, Joe Romigh, Brant Kennedy and Bob Williams will officiate and his grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Lord was born in Johnson County the son of the late Owen C. Lord, Sr. and the late Annie Harrell Lord. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as the personnel director/administrative officer for District Two. He was also the former owner and manager of the Century 21 Twin City Real Estate Co. He was an active member of the Piney Mount UMC where he served his church in numerous leadership roles including a former Sunday school teacher, worship song leader and longtime chairman of finance. He was a member of the Tennille Masonic Lodge and served his country on active duty as a Sargent in the National Guard. Mr. Lord was a loving husband, devoted father, lifelong farmer and a lover of nature, the outdoors and his animals. He is predeceased by his son, Michael Owen Lord; son-in-law, Michael David Thigpen, Sr.; brother, Lynwood Lord and wife Geneva; sister, Vivian Lord Garrett; and brothers-in-law William E. Garrett and O.J. Jackson.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Faye Anderson Lord; children, Steven (Tina) Lord of Tennille, Stacy L. (Danny) Howell of Athens, Melissa L. Thigpen of Tennille; daughter-in-law Darlene Black Lord of Tennille; grandchildren, Dustin Lord, Taylor Lord, John Daniel Glover, Ryan Durden, Chip Lord, Daniel Howell, Peyton Howell, Silas Howell, Mallory Potter and Adam Potter; a great- grandson Caleb Lord; and his sister Doris Jackson of Riddleville.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 5 to 7pm at the Piney Mount UMC, 3065 Old Savannah Road, Tennille, GA.
