Patricia Sessions Mathis

Mrs. Patricia Sessions Mathis, age 88, of Sandersville, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 following a brief illness.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3 ^rd at 2:00 p.m. at Tennille Baptist Church with interment in Zeta Cemetery, also in Tennille.  Minister Marlon Lastinger and Reverend Stan Littleton will officiate.  Mrs. Mathis’ nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Mathis was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, growing up in Tennille where she graduated High School and was a member of Tennille Baptist Church.  She formerly worked for the George D. Warthen Bank, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and retired from Brentwood School as the schools financial officer and bookkeeper.  She along with her husband Horace were longtime members of First Baptist Church of Sandersville where she taught Sunday School and served her church in numerous leadership roles.  Mrs. Mathis was an active member of the Gov. Jared Irwin Chapter of the DAR where she served as chapter Regent and Registrar.  She was also a member of the Sorosis club.  Mrs. Mathis is predeceased by her husband, Horace A. Mathis Jr.

Survivors include her son, William Mathis of Atlanta; her nephew and special family member, Franklin Pate of Sandersville; great nieces Ellen P. Price and her husband Taylor, their son, Jackson, and Abby Pate and her finance Jay Winkler all of Marietta; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be at 608 Linton Road Sandersville and they will receive friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
