Patricia Ann Van Patten

Miss Patricia Ann Van Patten, 81, of Sandersville Georgia died Friday Feb. 5 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Feb. 13 at noon at Lewis Lake Restaurant ,1631 Lewis Lake Road, near Bartow, Georgia. Miss Van Patten’s friends and relatives are invited to attend.

Funeral services will be held Friday Feb. 12 at Fredericks Funeral Home, 1801 Fredericks Road in Opelika. The viewing will begin at noon and a graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. at the Rosemere Cemetery. Reverend Steve Scoggins will officiate.

Miss Van Patten was born in 1928 in Columbus Georgia, the last of 11 children born to the late Henry Wilbert Van Patten and Bessie Leila Henderson. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Auburn University in 1949 and joined the Women’s Army Corps. Later she served as a company commander at Fort Dix New Jersey, the largest military installation in the Northeast. She earned a Masters degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1961, after which she worked at Robbins Air Force base in Warner Robbins Georgia until her retirement in 1983.

Miss Van Patten, “Pat” to her friends and family, lived for many years at Lewis Lake and was chief financial officer of the Lewis Lake Inc. She was an avid fan of the opera and enjoyed hunting.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her 10 sisters and brothers: Feara Hubbard, Gertrude Scott, Dorothy Kennedy, Edith Coulter, Henry Howard Van Patten, Wilton Veeley Van Patten, Una Plott, Helen Van Patten, Richard Van Patten and James Van Patten.

Her survivors include 16 loving nieces and nephews: Leah Walton, Verne Hubbard, Carol Gravlee, Alvin Lee Kennedy, Charlotte Kennedy Davis, Henry Eugene Kennedy, Richard Coulter, Patricia C. Raab, Victor Coulter, Norma Jean Turner, Barbara Ann Busby, Rodney Van Patten, Michael Plott, Dory Trinka, James G. Van Patten Jr. and Patrick S. Van Patten.
