Mary Pauline “Polly” Gladin, age 90, of Tennille died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at her residence. A private graveside memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
Mrs. Gladin was a native of Houston County, Georgia, the daughter of the late William R. Jones and the late Eula Maude Clark Jones. She started her working career as a bookkeeper with Hodges Lumber Company in Oconee and was later employed as clerk of the City of Oconee. Mrs. Gladin retired from the Washington County Board of Education where she served as secretary to the Superintendent under two administrations. She was involved in her community, serving as den mother for the Oconee Cub Scouts, with the WCRMC Volunteer Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) and as an honorary member of the Tennille Woman’s Club. Mrs. Gladin was a member of the Tennille United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston B. Gladin, Sr., a son, Preston B. Gladin, Jr., a grandson, Vince E. Gladin, nephew, Frank Morgan, brothers, Richard Jones and Felix Jones, and a sister, Hazel Morgan.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne G. Irons and her husband Bishop Dwight D. Irons of Tennille; a daughter-in-law, Sue Carter Gladin of Athens; a nephew, Felix Morgan of New Mexico; three grandchildren, Shannon D. Wilson, Ellen M. Gladin, and Dwight E. Irons; five great grandchildren, Corey Gladin, Bridgette Gladin , Alexis S. Wilson, Taylor Wilson, and Renee Irons, and one great great grandchild.
