Peggy Dutton

Mrs. Peggy Dutton, age 88 of Sandersville passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Heritage Inn. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial following on the family farm on Freetown Road. Mr. Clint Hancock will officiate, and pallbearers will be Lane Hancock, Chance Hancock, Cody Hancock, Rhett Hancock, Tucker Hancock, Michael Selby, and Charlie Hancock. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dutton was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the daughter of the late Jeardy Wilson and the late Mamie Garner Wilson. She worked in various occupations but most recently she was employed as an office assistant for Jet Food Stores. Mrs. Dutton was well known in the community for her enjoyment of playing the lottery, especially scratch-offs. In addition, she also enjoyed fishing and playing bingo. Mrs. Dutton could make a “mean sandwich” as well as wonderful dumplings. She was a sassy and independent woman who assisted in raising many of her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Dutton.

Mrs. Dutton is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Dutton Hancock (Chuck) of Sandersville; grandchildren, Justin Hancock (Miriam), Lance Hancock (Jenna), Cindy Selby, Rocky Lewis, Clint Hancock (Tammy), and Cliff Hancock; great grandchildren, Cody Hancock, Rhett Hancock, Lane Hancock, Camryn Hancock, Lauren Deberry (John), Michael R. Selby (Jill), Caylee Wright (Cory), Jordan Graham (Seth), Chance Hancock, Charlie Hancock, and Tucker Hancock; great-great grandchildren Hart Selby, Rowen Deberry and Jules Selby; and special friend and caretaker, Michelle Poole.
