Peggy Sue Veal

Mrs. Peggy Sue Veal, age 82, of 937 Tucker Road in Deepstep died Wednesday night, July 9, 2014, in the Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 12th, in the Deepstep United Methodist Church. Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Larry Giles will officiate with burial in the Deepstep Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Veal, Biff Girrard, and Randy Hall, Chris Ogden, Stacy Everrett, Otis Wiggins, Nath Veal and Glen Hood.

Mrs. Veal was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Walter Eli Barfield and the late Sallie Sweat Barfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Veron Veal and her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Julia Veal. Mrs. Veal attended Young Harris College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Georgia State College for Women. She was an elementary school teacher at Deepstep School, Sandersville Elementary School and Brentwood School. Mrs. Veal was a member of the Deepstep United Methodist Church, the Laura Hall Circle and served as church pianist for many years.

Survivors are her son, Howard Veal and his wife Carol of Deepstep; three grandchildren, Crissy Lindsey and her husband Jamie of Riddleville, Carl Veal of Durham, NC and Rebecca Veal of Lizella; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Lindsey and Taylor Lindsey.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7: 00 P.M. on Friday.
