Mr. Pete Yates, age 68, of Tennille, died Friday, September 9, 2011 following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12th at 11:00am at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Rev. Darell Young and Rev. Andy Yates will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mike Sturgess, Lee Drake, Tanner Burks, Chris Mayhew, Billy Burks, David Earl, Jay Garrett, and Danny Yates.
Mr. Yates was born in Washington County the son of the late Willie Julian Yates Sr. and the late Martha Fowler Yates. He was a long time resident of Locust Grove where he worked as a machinist in the Airline Industry retiring from Northwestern Airlines as a lead machinist. Mr. Yates was also the former owner and operator of Yates Grading in Locust Grove. He was a lifelong member of the Tennille Baptist Church where he attended after retiring to Tennille. Mr. Yates was a US Army Veteran and he is predeceased by his first wife Violet Faye Yates.
Survivors are; his wife Glenda Lord Yates of Tennille, children, Shelia Y. Mundy (Cleve), David Yates (Niki) and Joe Yates (Tammy) all of Locust Grove, grandchildren, Criston Mundy, Devon Yates, Destiny Yates, J.K. Mundy, Justin Mundy, Justice Yates, Summer Yates, Tasha Williams, Dustin Hancock, and Candice Cappo, one brother Jim Yates (Louise) of Jewell, one sister Sallie Wyatt (Swain) of Tennille and aunts Louise Cook of Tennille and Sybil Fowler of Davisboro.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
