Ray Hitchcock

December 31, 1922 — July 25, 2013

Mr. Ray Hitchcock, age 90, of 1000 East Indian Hill Road in Tennille died Thursday, July 25, 2013, in the Carl Vinson Veterans Hospital in Dublin following an extended illness. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 28th, in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery near Tennille. The Reverend James Veal will officiate.

Mr. Hitchcock was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Horace Hitchcock, Sr. and the late Zudie Tyson Hitchcock. He was the husband of the late Ellen Elton Hitchcock. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Hitchcock was a member and Deacon of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and served as church treasurer for many years. Mr. Hitchcock was a member of the Tennille Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Directors of the Washington County Department of Family and Children Services for a number of years. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.

Survivors are his two daughters, Joy Hitchcock Conner and her husband Eric of Tennille and Kay Hitchcock Layton and her husband Wayne of Tennille; a son, Benjamin E. Hitchcock and his wife Charlotte of Tennille; six grandchildren, Jessica Pione, Blaine Bryan, Andrea Layton, Chris Layton, Kristen Hitchcock and Kimberly Duncan; and three great- grandchildren, Sofia Pione, Alexander Pione and Brayden Duncan.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Saturday.

The family suggests donations be made to the Brentwood School, P. O. Box 955, Sandersville, Georgia 31082 or Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 270 News Bridge Road, Tennille, Georgia 31089.
