Ray Allen Mathis

June 19, 1935 — July 25, 2016

Mr. Ray Allen Mathis, age 81, of Sandersville died on Monday, July 25, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 28, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Reverend Gary Mimbs and Reverend Scott Kitchens will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Mr. Mathis was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Roy Anderson Mathis and the late Zudie Pearl Cooper Pulliam. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Virginia Hodges, Erma McGee, Alex Mathis and Cecil Mathis. Mr. Mathis was a retired route salesman for Coca Cola Corporation for twenty seven years and a security person for the Georgia Department of Transportation for seven years. Mr. Mathis was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn McCoy Mathis of Sandersville; two daughters, Lisa Mathis Jones and Penny Mathis Wright and her husband Chuck both of Sandersville; two sons, Ken Mathis and his wife Sharon and Tony Mathis and his wife Leslie both of Sandersville; eight grandchildren, Derek Mock, Timothy Blue, Lacey Mathis Sayler, Colby Mathis, Tyler Mathis, Christopher Mathis, Nicholas Wright and Wesley Mathis; seven great grandchildren, Kyla Anderson, Logan Anderson, Emma Mock, Peyton Mathis, Josh Mathis, Cohen Mathis and Carleigh Sayler.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

The family suggest donations be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, P. O. Box 801, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.

May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
