Mr. Raymond Sampson Smith, Jr., age 71, of 2862 Woodhollow Lane in Jonesboro died Wednesday night, September 18, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21st, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. The Reverend Larry Glover will officiate. Pallbearers will be Chris Rogers, Kenny Rogers, Jeffery Rawls, Michael Newsome, Neil Pittman and Joey Smith.
Mr. Smith was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Raymond Sampson Smith, Sr. and the late Martha Elizabeth Pittman Smith. He had lived in Jonesboro for many years and was a retired claims adjuster for Healthfield Insurance Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville. Mr. Smith was a communications specialist serving in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict. He is predeceased by a sister Martha Elizabeth Smith.
Survivors are his close friends, Richard and Irene Rawls of Jonesboro; his Godchildren, Jeffery Rawls, Raymond Rawls, Chris Rogers and Kenny Rogers and families; his brothers, James Benjamin Smith and his wife Mary Esther of Haddock and Joseph Lamar Smith and his wife Carolyn of Sandersville; his nephew, Curtis Smith and his wife Misty of Haddock and several other nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends from Noon until the hour of service in the Chapel.
