Rebecca Oliver Wammock

February 19, 1920 — September 12, 2017

Mrs. Rebecca "Becky" Oliver Wammock, age 97, of Harrison died on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Bishop, Georgia following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 18 at Bethany Baptist Church with burial in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville.  Reverend Jarrett Burch and Reverend Brant Kennedy will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Chad Wammock, Spencer Veal, Patrick Veal, Robert Oliver, James Gurr, Dave Hammock, Waylon Field and Ryan Martin.

Mrs. Wammock was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the daughter of the late John Arthur Oliver and the late Jennie Etta Jenkins Oliver.  She was the wife of the late Arnold Oswald Wammock.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Murtis L. Phillips, Marie Eason Evan Hughes "Buster" Oliver, John Felton Oliver and John Arthur Oliver. Mrs. Wammock was a talented seamstress and homemaker.

Born in 1920 in Johnson County (Georgia), Miss Becky was a child during the Great Depression.  She met her husband, Arnold, in Wrightsville, GA, and married before he was deployed as a paratrooper in World War II.  After the war, Becky and Arnold moved from Thomaston GA to family land near Harrison, Ga.  Here they built the family home on a small farm.

Tragedy struck in 1953 when Arnold died in an accident.  Left as a single Mom, with three children aged six and under, Miss Becky assumed the role of sole provider and head of the household.  Her income, supplemented by sewing, baby sitting, and rent on the farm enabled her to raise the three children.  While there wasn't much in the way of tangible things, the house was always filled with love and support.

Miss Becky loved children and, in addition to raising her own, played an important role in raising children both in the family and in the community.  She loved our Lord and was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church for fifty years.

Survivors are her daughters, June Wammock Baggett and her husband Joel of Bethlehem, GA, and Wanda Wammock Veal of Sanford, FL.; a son, Fred Wammock of Eatonton; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday.
