Mr. Rhonie Paul Rogers, age 74, of 314 Franklin Street in Tennille died Sunday January 2, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 5, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. The Rev. Jeff Cook, Rev. Don Youmans and Rev. Dr. Dwight Irons will officiate with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.
Mr. Rogers was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the son of the late James Rogers and the late Cora Mae Arrington Rogers. He was a graduate of Wadley High School and served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired electrician with Thiele Kaolin Company. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Tennille United Methodist Church and served in numerous capacities for the church. He was on the Board of Directors of the Jefferson County Historical Society.
Survivors are his wife, Leona Weaving Rogers of Tennille, a daughter, Jeanette Rogers Ward of Scott,Ga., three sons, Rhonie Rogers of Sandersville, Edward James Rogers of Harrison and Jeffrey Rogers of Tennille, four grandchildren, Samuel Luther Rogers, Amy Jessica Rogers, Mary Beth Rogers and Catherine Warren Rogers, a sister, Betty Jean Rogers of Tennille.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday. The family suggests that donations be made to the Tennille United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 265, Tennille Georgia 31089.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
