Mr. Richard Wayne Sheram, age 70, of Sandersville passed away on December 14, 2021 at Augusta University Hospital following an extended illness. A memorial service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 18 at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate.
Wayne was born in Augusta, Georgia, the son of the late Jerry Guy Sheram, Jr. and the late Lucille Hett Sheram. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Steven Ray Sheram and his grandson, Zachariah Joshua (Josh) Sheram, Jr. During his years of growing up, Wayne lived in Washington County. He attended Tennille Elementary School and graduated from Washington County High School where he excelled as an athlete in both football and basketball as well as track. He was a popular student who was well liked for being outgoing and friendly to everyone. His senior year he was a “senior favorite” and was nominated and voted Mr. WCHS by the entire student body. After high school he attended South Georgia Technical and Vocational School in Americus. Then he went to work with his father at Jerry Sheram Welding Service in Sandersville. Later he owned and operated his own business, Sheram Construction Company, Inc. Upon retirement he was employed with Washington County Machine Shop, Inc. and CV Brookins.
As a young man and well into his senior years, Wayne was an avid sportsman. He loved to hunt and fish and passed this love on to his two sons. Together they spent many happy hours in the great outdoors. Let it be said “If you are a true Sheram you are a fisherman”. Wayne was a member of Deepstep United Methodist Church.
