Robert Chaffe Cheely, Sr

Mr. Robert Chaffe Cheely, Sr., age 79, of Tennille passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, May 18, 2024.  A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, May 21st at 3:00 p.m., at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville, with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.  Reverend Bobby Williford will officiate.  Mr. Cheely's family will greet friends also on Tuesday, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

Robert was born and reared in Hancock County, the son of the late Louis Cheely and the late Otis Hinsley Cheely.  He began working on the family farm at an early age.  Later in life he began a long career as a professional truck driver.  During his career he transported many things, including timber, milk, cement and anything that could be placed on a flat bed.  He was an avid baseball fan and loved watching baseball, wrestling and westerns.  Fishing was one of Robert’s favorite pastimes.

Survivors include his life partner, Joy Hester of Tennille; children, Robert Cheely Jr. of Tennille, Linda Cheely of Arizona, Paul Cheely of Warner Robins and James Cheely (Christin Mason) of Milledgeville; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and siblings, Lillie Mae Turner, Charles Cheely and Frank Cheely.
