Robert Charles Fitzgerald

Mr. Robert Charles Fitzgerald, age 70, of Warthen Georgia passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday morning June 14, 2026. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Riverdale Baptist Church in Canton Georgia with Rev. Thomas Wheeler and Rev. Greg Koch officiating. His family will greet friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at South Canton Funeral Home in Canton Georgia. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 17th, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Warthen Georgia with family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service in the church sanctuary. Rev. Brice Jeffcoat will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robert Clark, Cameron Beasley, Carter Clark, Baylor Beasley, Dalton Hilliard, Noah Fitzgerald and Reed Register.

Bobby was born in Atlanta son of the late Robert Francis Fitzgerald and the late Barbara Jean Allered Fitzgerald. He was reared in both Binghampton, New York and Canton Georgia where he graduated from Cherokee County High School excelling in sports. Bobby was the starting football quarterback and baseball catcher. Post graduation he received a football scholarship to Maryville College and two years later a baseball scholarship to Shorter College where he was 1st Team All American and led the nation in home runs and runs batted in the NAIA Division. During college, Bobby met his first wife and mother of his children, Brenda Arwood. He graduated college with bachelor and master’s degrees and returned to Cherokee County High School serving as a teacher, head football coach and baseball coach. In 2009 Bobby was inducted to the Cherokee County Sports Hall of fame. Following coaching, he transitioned into a career in the cable TV industry working for TCI Cable Company in Athens and later as manager of the local franchise in Sandersville. Bobby later became an IT Engineer and worked from Cogentes and lastly Responsive Technology. He was an avid sports fan but his greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren in their endeavors. Bobby also loved music, especially Rock and Blues. He enjoyed time fishing and hunting. Bobby was saved at the age of 12 at North Canton Baptist Church and was later a member of Riverdale Baptist Church. He was a current member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Bobby loved the Lord and instilled that into his family. His parents, first wife Brenda and brother, Barry Fitzgerald all predecease him.

Survivors include his daughters, Brandi F. Clark (Jess Hilliard) of Warthen, Brittany F. Russell of Stapleton, and Blair F. Register (Logan) of Milledgeville; grandchildren who affectionately called him "Poppy," Caroline Clark, Robert Clark, Carter Clark, Dalton Hilliard, Cameron Beasley, Avery Beasley, Baylor Beasley, Brenleigh Register and Reed Register; siblings, Billy Fitzgerald (Charlotte) of Jasper, GA., Benny Fitzgerald (Pam), Becky Gaddis (David), Bradley Fitzgerald (Kim) all of Canton GA., and Brady Fitzgerald of Blue Ridge GA. and numeral nieces, nephews and extended family.
