Sandersville

Mr. Robert Lee "Bobby" Chambers, age 84, of Sandersville died on Sunday, December 13, 2015, from complications of lung cancer.

Funeral services for Mr. Chambers will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 16, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Reverend Larry Giles and Reverend Jimmy Harris will officiate with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens located on Highway 24 West of Sandersville.

Pallbearers will be Carlton Chambers, Tom Chambers, Chris Chambers, Jeff Chambers, Ron Chambers, Scott Chambers, Al Denton, Scott Matthews, David Lanthrip, Howard Veal, and Al Peeler.

Mr. Chambers was a native of Washington County, the son of the late James Fred Chambers and the late Mary Anne Wiggins Chambers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Louise Fowler Chambers, and two brothers, James Chambers and Frank Chambers. Mr. Chambers was a farmer and retired from American Industrial Clay Company in March of 1991. Mr. Chambers was an avid cook and was well known for his gifts of his freshly baked pound cakes to his friends. He was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church and a former member of the Washington County Farm Bureau. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors are: his daughters, Angie Chambers Murgas and her husband Pete of Snellville, Cheryl Chambers McGilton and her husband Pat of Carriere, MS, Beth Chambers Hall and her husband Michael of Ball Ground, and Lisa Chambers Berry and her husband Steve of Milledgeville; ten grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Floyd Cook of Groton, MA; three brothers, Fred Chambers of Waynesboro, Douglas Chambers of Milledgeville and Ronny Chambers of Toomsboro.

The family suggest donations be made to the Smyrna Baptist Church, c/o Al Denton, 1312 Veal Road , Sandersville, Georgia 31082.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
