Mr. Robert Schley “Bobby” Moore, age 82, of Sandersville, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8th at 2:00pm at the Sandersville United Methodist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Buck IV will officiate. Pallbearers will be Danny Hammock, John Dean McCaskill, Bill Hodges, Jimmy Bickham, Mike Palmer, Thomas Tyson, Edsel Scarboro, Jimmy Glover and Ron Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be board members and employees of the Washington EMC.
Mr. Moore was born in Jefferson County the son of the late Schley Moore and the late Alice Bothwell Moore. He was reared in both Johnson and Washington Counties before he joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Bobby also worked as a civilian for the US Air Force after active duty. He returned to Washington County in 1964 and began a 37 year career with the Washington EMC from which he retired in 2000 as General Manager and CEO. During Bobby’s work career he served as president of; the Southeastern Data Corporation, the Georgia EMC Federal Credit Union, the Georgia Rural Electric Service Corporation and the Georgia EMC Managers Association. He also served as an alternate director for Oglethorpe Power and was a member of the advisory board of the National Rural Telecommunication Corporation. Bobby had a lifetime love for avionics which he demonstrated through his work on the Washington County Airport Authority serving for many years as board chairman. Kaolin Fields newly constructed airport terminal’s conference center bears his name in honor of his efforts. Bobby was an active member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church where he served his church in numerous leadership rolls throughout his lifetime. He is predeceased by his brother Charles Moore, his grandson Dave Turner and his daughter-in-law Kim Sanders Moore.
Survivors are; his wife Mary Jean Renfroe Moore, children, Robert S. “Bob” Moore Jr., of Sandersville, Mary Lynn Moore of Milledgeville, Jonathan Wilson Moore and his wife Michelle of Tennille and Roger Bothwell Moore and his wife Grace of Milledgeville, grandchildren, Anthony Moore, Robby Moore, Lachlan Butcher and his wife Emily, Tristan Butcher, Evan Butcher, Alenah Moore, Schley Moore, Wilson Moore, Lawson Moore and Elizabeth Moore, a great-granddaughter Lizzie Moore and his sister Betty Moore Durden also of Sandersville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Wednesday at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
