Mr. Roger G. Ivey Jr., age 81, of Hwy. 24 East in Sandersville died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 24th at 2:00pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Rev. Bert Parker and Rev. Dewey Henderson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Blanton Lingold , Chad George, Eric Burgamy, Kenny Swan, Chris Swan, Jimmy Clyde Prince, Kevin Wicker, Scott Matthews and Brice Scott.
Mr. Ivey was born in Washington County the son of the late Roger G. Ivey, Sr. and the late Clara Lee Grimes Ivey. He began his work career with Warner Robins Air Force Base before working in the Kaolin Industry for over 30 years. Mr. Ivey began work with AICC and retired with ECCI. He was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church where he was active in Sunday School and the Church Brotherhood. Mr. Ivey served as a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later served in the Air Force Reserves.
Survivors are: his wife Virginia Burgamy Ivey; children, Michael R. Ivey and Claire I. Souter (Voyne) all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Emily G. Ivey and Michelle L. Ivey and his sister Margaret I. Brantley (Leroy) also of Sandersville.
The family will be at the Ivey residence, 3898 Hwy. 24 East in Sandersville and will receive friends from 1 to 2pm at the Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
