Roy Virgil Powell

Mr. Roy Virgil Powell, of Sandersville, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14th, at 11:00am at the Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. M.D. Cabe will officiate. Pallbearers will be Michael Powell, Jack Smith, Bob Davis, Chuck Woodall, Tony Dominy and Aaron Frost.

Mr. Powell was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the son of the late Roy J. Powell and the late Sarah Ethel May Powell. He worked in the Kaolin industry and retired from ECCI. Mr. Powell was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church and was a US Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.

Survivors are his wife Nellie Ruth Jones Powell of Sandersville; children, Chris Powell (Kathy) of Cumming, Sherry Powell Moss of McDonough, Kim Powell Clower (Rick) of Atlanta; sisters, H. Marie Powell of Dublin, Jacquelyn Veal (Eugene) of Sandersville, Mary Ellen Davis of Evans and Judy Frost of Riddleville; brothers-in-law, Johnny Jones of Sandersville, Harvard Jones (Mary) of Sandersville and Robert Jones of Savannah; sister-in-law Mabel Hodges of Louisville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Sisters Baptist Church from 10:00am until the hour of service on Saturday.
