Roy Rogers Yarbrough

Mr. Roy Rogers Yarbrough, age 73, of Davisboro, passed away unexpectedly on his birthday, Tuesday, Jan 31, 2023.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, February 3 rd at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery with military honors.  Reverend Brant Kennedy and Reverend Jarrett Burch and Reverend Burt Dollar will officiate.  Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Newsome, Justin Coleman, Codey Swann, Thomas Michael Sims, Greg Marsh, Jody Mathis and Izell McGruder.

Roy was born and reared in Davisboro, the son of the late J.T. Yarbrough and the late Bernice Cowart Yarbrough.  He graduated from Washington County High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country in Viet Nam.  Upon returning home, Roy used his military mechanic skills with his father mostly working on farm equipment.  He was a long-time resident of Hephzibah, where he was a member of the I.B.E.W. local union 1579 and worked at Plant Vogtle primarily as a welder.  In 1994, Roy returned to Davisboro and worked as a foreman for the Georgia Department of Transportation out of the Gibson office.  Roy loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and growing his tomatoes.  He cherished family and loved caring for his dogs and could always fill his time with an episode of Gunsmoke.  Roy is predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda Mathis Yarbrough.

Survivors include his children, Mike Sims and his wife Margaret, Shawn Yarbrough and his wife Shara all of Davisboro, Chris Sims and his wife Bonnie of Warrenton, NC., and Deana Swann and her husband Glenn of Davisboro; grandchildren, Brandon Newsome, Aaron Sims, Justin Coleman, Thomas Michael Sims, Codey Swann, Margaret Lynn Sims and Kaylee Yarbrough; and brother, Wiley Yarbrough of Davisboro.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
