Rufus Lindsey

Mr. Rufus Lindsey, age 91, of Riddleville, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2 nd at 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Reverends, Marty Deal, Danny Thomas and M.D. Cabe will officiate.  Pallbearers will be the Deacons of New Bethel Baptist Church and honorary pallbearers will be Louie Waller, Danny Snell, Roger Kicklighter, Willis Hartley, Billy Brantley, Charlie Lindsey, James Brooks, and Jamie Lindsey.

Mr. Lindsey was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Asa William Lindsey and the late Ila Shurling Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Beulah Lindsey, Benton Lindsey, Walter Lindsey, Geneva Johnson, Adel Fulmer, and Robbie Lindsey. He was lifelong farmer, a tiller of the soil, and a lover of the land.  Mr. Lindsey had a passion for mentoring future farmers and in later years enjoyed growing and selling produce. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a church usher and he also was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Margaret Barfield Lindsey; children, Joann L. Milam and her husband Sheldon of Riddleville, Faye L. Haynes and her husband Gary of Sandersville, and Rufus Grady Lindsey and his wife Janet of Riddleville; grandchildren, Marie Kitchings and her husband Clay, Erin Jarvis and her husband Mark, Rusty Haynes, Layla Noble and her husband Adrian, Matthew Lindsey and Morgan Lindsey; six great grandchildren; sister, Anna L. Reynolds of Riddleville; sister-in-law, Charlotte F. Lindsey of Riddleville; and brother-in-law, Bill Fulmer of Wagner SC.

The family will be at the Lindsey residence on Old Savannah Road and they will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
