Mr. Russell Joiner, age 73, of Highway 15 North, Wrightsville, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville, with burial in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville.  Keith Joiner and Michael Bailey will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Tyler Wilkerson, Kenny Wilkerson, Tommy Marshall, Jr., Jake Edwards, Tommy Marshall, Sr., Mike Channel and Richard Boyd.   Mr. Joiner’s family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

David Russell Joiner was born and reared in the Donavan area of Johnson County, son of the late Owen Martin Joiner Sr. and the late Ruby Myrle Whitfield Joiner.  As soon as he turned 18, he went to work at Thiele Kaolin Company where he worked in production, in the quality control lab, and on the tracks.  Later Russell worked for the Washington County Landfill prior to finishing his working career at Parker Fish Company, in transportation.  He always had a garden and especially loved growing tomatoes.  Russell enjoyed being outdoors and camping.  He was a sports fan and an avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Falcons fan.  He was a member of the NRA.  Above all, Russell cherished his family and loved spending time with all.  He is predeceased by bothers, Bobby Joiner and Tommy Joiner.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carol Dean Black Joiner; daughters, Lori Ann Joiner and Michelle Joiner and her fiancé Tommy Marshall, all of Wrightsville; grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Wilkerson, Kenneth David Wilkerson; great grandchildren, Summer Lei Wilkerson and Oakley Faye Wilkerson; siblings, Eloise Hayes of Virginia, Owen Martin Joiner Jr. and his wife Suzanne, Connie Sheppard and her husband Everett all of Harrison, Carol Price and her husband Roger of Wrightsville, Jan Claxton and her husband Carlton of Dublin, Ben Joiner and his wife Leigh of Harrison, and June Baily and her husband Michael of Dublin; and his best friend and furry companion, Ruger.
