Mr. S. Russell Jackson, age 76 of Guyton, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Eagle Health and Rehab in Statesboro following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with a private burial following. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate, and Mr. Jackson’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mr. Jackson was raised in Washington County, the son of the late Taylor Lee Jackson and the late Mildred Louise Frost Jackon. He spent his working career in the construction industry, retiring as Construction Superintendent at Harden Homes in Hilton Head. Mr. Jackson was a jack of all trades, but especially enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Gene Jackson, Sr., Joe Jackson, Bill Jackson, Sr., Louise Jackson Leverett, Ruby Jackson Mimbs, and Ann Jackson Jones.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris Pickelsimer Jackson; daughters, Belinda Jackson Burke (Wesley) of Guyton, and Melissa Jackson Hamrick (Michael) of Boone, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin Burke Pierson (Ronny), Ryan Timohty Burke, Travis Michael Hamrick, Jr., and Matthew Lee Hamrick; great granddaughter, Millie Pierson; sisters, Sandra Jackson Smith, and Brenda Jackson Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Jackson’s memory to New Bethel Baptist Church, 1839 New Bethel Road, Bartow, GA 30413.
