Mrs. Sallie Marie Claxton, age 78, of Harts Ford Road, Tennille, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at her residence. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Kite City Cemetery. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate and Otis Claxton, III, Joe Long, Clifford Claxton, Jason Martin, Clint Rowland, and Ron Claxton will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Claxton was born one of eight children to the late John Gee and Rosella Higgins Gee. She was a seamstress by trade, working for Carters. Mrs. Claxton enjoyed working in her flower garden, and she had an extensive collection of owls. Mrs. Claxton was a loving Mama and Grandma and found exceptional joy in taking care of her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Otis Claxton, Jr., and grandson, Travis Lee Claxton.
Mrs. Claxton is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Otis Claxton; children, John Charles Weaver of Harrison, and Kim Nesbitt (Eric) of Scott; grandchildren, Brandi Claxton (Preston) and Otis Claxton, III (Daphne); great-grandchildren, Na’Kayla Reaves, Layla Reaves, Daylen Little, Zeaveah Little, Kylee Little, Travis Little, and Alanna Lynn Claxton; brother, Clifford Gee; special sister-in-law, Ginger Gee; and her beloved dog, Smokey.
