Sammy Herbert Rainwater

Mr. Sammy Herbert "Sam" Rainwater, age 88, of Grayson, Georgia, formerly of Sandersville, died on Thursday, August 3, 2017, in Grayson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 6 in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.  Reverend Lee Lacey, Reverend Scott McDade and Reverend Rick Freeman will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Lee Avant, Randy Hall, Jim Snell, Ben English, J. T. Fredrick, Paul Turner, Rogers Anderson, Jr. and Freddie Cullens.

Mr. Rainwater was a native of Charleston, South Carolina, the son of the late Samuel Herbert Rainwater and the late Lois Crumbley Rainwater.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fulghum Rainwater  and daughter, Patricia Rainwater del Valle. Mr. Rainwater received an associate’s degree and was a retired postal carrier with the United States Post Office with over 24 years of service.   He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville and Men’s Brotherhood.

Survivors are: his daughter, Beth Rainwater DiGiovanni and her husband Mark of Grayson; granddaughter, Mara DiGiovanni; step son, Michael Fulghum and his wife Linda of Byron.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. Sunday until the hour of service.
