Samuel L. Cowart

Mr. Samuel L. Cowart, Jr., age 91, of 2630 Chickasaw Road in Davisboro died Friday April 8 in the Extended Care Facility in Sandersville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday April 11 in the White Oak Methodist Church with burial in the White Oak Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Dewey Henderson and Rev. Bobby Hamlin will officiate. Pallbearers will be Wayne Cowart, Tommy Cowart, David Prince, Trippi Yarbrough, Donald Norris, Bill Jackson, Sr.

Mr. Cowart was a native of Washington County, Georgia, the son of the late Samuel Leaston Cowart, Sr. and the late Ellavenia Welch Cowart. He was the husband of the late Catherine Alexander Cowart and the late Margaret Williamson Cowart. He received his GED at age 65 and was the oldest in that class and had the highest grade. Mr. Cowart was a tool and die maker and was retired from Therma King. Mr. Cowart was the author of Old Mules, New Ground and Cotton Blooms which is a collection of poetry he had written. He was a member of the White Oak Methodist Church and a volunteer of the Friends of the Library in Macon. Mr. Cowart was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors are his daughters, Patricia Cowart Norris and her husband Ronald of Davisboro and Ellavenia Cowart Zachem and her husband John of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, seven grandchildren, Mary Katherine Howe, Kristen Cason, Victoria Norris, Kelly Waters, Karen Mason, Katrina Jeffcoat and Kathleen Davis, nine great grandchildren and a great great grandchild, a brother, Willard Cowart of Sandersville and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday. The family suggests that donations be made to the White Oak Methodist Church.

May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
