Samuel Dave Whitaker

Mr. Dave Whitaker, age 80, of Sandersville, died on Thursday, January 18, 2018, in a local hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 21 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.  Reverend Marlon Lastinger will officiate.

Mr. Whitaker was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Sam Whitaker and the late Mamie Louise Wilcher Whitaker.  He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Dave Whitaker and a sister, Betty Jeffries.  Mr. Whitaker had a green thumb with his garden each year and enjoyed raising chickens.  He rode his bike and walked for quiet time and exercise and he loved going to the beach. Mr. Whitaker was a reader and researcher and had the ability of writing and saying meaningful and heartfelt prayers.  He was a retired mine operator and office manager for American Industrial Clay Company.  Mr. Whitaker served in the United States Navy and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Marie Brown Whitaker of Sandersville; a daughter, April Whitaker Wendt and her husband Bill of Milledgeville; four sisters, Ann W. Thomas of Waycross, Nell Giles and her husband Charles of Deepstep, Gloria Waller of Sandersville and Patty Burgamy of Tennille; a brother, Glenn Whitaker and his wife Sue of Stockbridge; several nieces and nephews; and his pride was his dog, Duff .

The family suggest donations be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, c/o Mark Allen, 2947 Pleasant Grove Road, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.

The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. on Sunday until the hour of service.
