Mrs. Sara Shurling Amerson, age 90, of Lawrenceville, died Friday, January 27, 2017. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017, at 12 noon in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverend Mike Bankston and Mr. Jack Shurling will officiate. Pallbearers will be Christopher Smith, Ryan Smith, Eric Toney, Bobby Shurling, Jim Shurling, and Harold Channell.
Mrs. Amerson was a native of Washington County, the daughter of the late Jim Black Shurling and the late Ruby Channell Shurling. She was a long time resident of Savannah, where she worked for Star Dry Cleaning and Laundry. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Mrs. Amerson retired home to Tennille in 1991 and moved to Lawrenceville in 1993 to be near family, where she was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband, Edwin Amerson; brother, James Shurling and grandson, Daniel Smith.
Survivors are: her daughters, Joan A. Williamson and her husband David of Snellville, and Patti A. Smith and her husband Joe of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Denise Williamson and her fiancé Keith, Renee W. Barrett, Christopher D. Smith and his wife Samantha and Ryan J. Smith and his wife Kristin; great grandchildren, Sara Martin, Eric Toney and his wife MacKenzie, Kayla Barrett, Autumn Barrett, Curtis Smith, Thomas Smith, Alexis Smith and MacKenzie Mjelde; great great grandchildren, Sofie Wright, Nova Toney and Blakelynn Martin.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 12 noon at the Funeral Home.
