Sara Turner Hood, age 88, of 333 North Main Street in Tennille, Georgia died Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility. Visitation will be held this Wednesday from 5 until 7 pm at the May & Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville. Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 11:00 am at Ohoopee Baptist Church in Tennille. Reverend Paul Melton will officiate and a burial will follow at Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Pallbearers will be Kevin Frazier, Jimmy Lewis, Greg Seals, Charles Shurling, A.W. Smith, Bobby Smith and Johnny Wiles.
Mrs. Hood was born August 26, 1922 to the late John and Dessie Mae Arrington Turner of Macon. She is predeceased by husbands Lewis Frazier, Calvin Rhodes and her brother Binion Turner.
A wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mr. Thomas Hood of Tennille; two sons, Larry (Susan) Frazier of Smyrna and John (Marjorie) Frazier of Brooklet; three step-sons, Ronald Rhodes, William Lee Rhodes and Terry Rhodes all of Tennille; a step-daughter, Cheryl Hart of Tennille; a sister, Doris Moore of Wrens; and three grandchildren, Jennifer (Frank) Hill of Atlanta, Leigh Frazier of Athens and Kevin Frazier of Atlanta. Mrs. Hood recently celebrated the birth of her first great grandchild, Lillie Frazier Hill.
“Miss Sara” was an active member of the Tennille community, including the Tennille Women’s Club. Also a member of the Oconee Valley Iris Club, her love of gardening was demonstrated year round by her meticulous gardens, rose bushes and iris beds. She attended Ohoopie Baptist Church for over sixty years, singing in the choir and caring for many of its longstanding members. Some may also remember Mrs. Hood from her more than thirty years of work at various stores in downtown Tennille, notably at Hartley’s 5 & 10.
Of all things, Mrs. Hood most enjoyed spending time with family. She will be dearly missed and always celebrated by all who loved her.
