Mrs. Shelia Brookins Bridges, age 73, of Oscar Drive in Sandersville, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, after an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Washington County Memorial Gardens. Pastor Scott Ferguson and Reverend Brian Massey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Keith Massey, Christian Massey, Justin Robson, Trent Morris, Troy Morris, and Ryan Hodges. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 1:00p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bridges was born in Washington County, the daughter of the late Carl Vinson Brookins, Sr. and Dorothy Brantley Brookins. She was a homemaker and loved working in the yards. Mrs. Bridges had a magic green thumb that could turn two ferns into twelve. She was also masterful at puzzles, especially word puzzles and she also liked to crochet. Mrs. Bridges was a wonderful baker and could make a mean banana cake. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Ronald Brookins and Mary Ellen Brookins. She was a member of Louisville Church of God.
Mrs. Bridges is survived by her husband of 56 years, Glenn Bridges; daughters, Debra Massey and her husband Brian of Sandersville, DeeDee Brown and her husband Dr. Cecil Brown of Toccoa, and Lynn Christopher and her husband Bruce of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Ashley Mathis and her husband Colby, Keith Massey, Cody Christopher, Gabbi Christopher, and Christian Massey; great grandsons, Peyton Mathis and Cohen Mathis; siblings, Faye Robson and C.V. Brookins, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
