Shirley Jarrell Godin, 84, of Sandersville, GA, daughter of the late Ernest and Sylvia Webb Jarrell, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 11, 2020. She was born in Sundial, W.Va., on August 24, 1936. She was a graduate of Concord College in Athens, WV with a degree in education. Shirley taught school in Chicago, Il and then gifted education at T.J. Elder Middle School and Washington County High School in Sandersville, GA for 24 years. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, teacher, and friend to many.
Shirley was an avid bridge player and a member of Sandersville Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club made up of many of her dearest friends. Shirley loved spending time with her friends and hosting afternoon tea parties. In her earlier years she was a member of the Sandersville Transylvania Club, The Guild, Spade and Trowel Garden Club, Girl Scout Leader and other community organizations. Shirley was best known for her always optimistic outlook, selflessness, loving, giving nature, willingness to help anyone and being the best wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother ever.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Dr. Fred Godin, who passed away in 2007, and her brothers, Bob and Charlie Jarrell. She will be greatly missed by her surviving, daughter, Michelle Godin Smith of Milledgeville, Ga.; son, Fred Godin Jr. (Joy) of Milledgeville, GA.; brother, Glen Jarrell; sisters, Katherine Roberts, Patty Helvey, Amy Workman, June Simmons; grandchildren, Katherine Cannon (John), Troy Brantley, Emma Kate Godin and Freddy Godin; great-grandchildren, Ella Cannon, Grace Cannon, and Finn Cannon.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Care Options, 163 Roberson Mill Rd., Milledgeville, Ga or a charity or cause of your choice.
