Mr. Soloman Joseph Pittman, age 87, of North Harris St. in Sandersville, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 6, at 11:00am in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mark Carter will officiate.
Mr. Pittman was a lifelong resident of Washington County the son of the late James Bennie Pittman and the late Claudia Poole Pittman. He was a faithful member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and also served as Sunday School Superintendant. Sol proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was retired from Champion Papers, was the owner of the former Sandersville Janitorial Service and co-owner of Pittman Bakery. Sol is predeceased by a son Allen Pittman.
His memory will forever be treasured by his family. Survivors are his wife Ann Norris Pittman, of Sandersville, Children, Neil and Penny Pittman of Sandersville and Jan and Jerry May of Lakeland FL., grandchildren, Elizabeth Pittman, Meg and Eric Smith, and Olivia and Walker May, honorary grandchildren, Rachel and Caroline Veal and Allie Dawson, sisters Clutha P. Golder of Chamblee, and Louise P. Carswell of Brunswick and his brother William H. Pittman of Ashland TN.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening after the service from 4 to 8pm at the Pittman residence 223 N. Harris Street in Sandersville.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the donor’s favorite charity.
