Mrs. Sue Jackson Booth, age 85, of Tennille, died Thursday, February 11, 2016, at her residence. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 14th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandersville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Joe Buck officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mrs. Booth was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and reared in Sparta the daughter of the late Herschel Jackson and the late Maxine Montgomery Jackson. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Clinton Booth. Sue’s journey began with marrying the love of her life, Pete Booth, in the Smyrna Methodist Church in Hancock County and her career coincided with her husband’s military career which took them all over the world.
They began in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, where Sue served as the social correspondent for the Ft. Knox newspaper, “In the Turret”. She worked professionally as a Librarian for the Department of Commerce in Bethesda Maryland. Sue accomplished many endeavors while living in Korea, such as serving as the President of the American Chapter of the Korean/American Red Cross, teaching English to Korean government officials, and serving as the president of the Korean/American Women’s Golf Association. After retiring to her childhood home of Sparta, she and Pete refurbished her family home prior to moving to Washington County. Sue was a member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Friendship Fellowship Senior Group, and the United Methodist Women’s group. Sue was also a member of the Washington County Pilot Club.
Survivors are: her husband Col. (Ret.) James W. “Pete” Booth of Tennille; daughters, Cheryl Booth Giordano of Roswell, and Cynthia Booth Thomas and her husband Chris of Sandersville; grandchildren, Shannon Marie Rogers, Jessalyn Sarah Thomas, and Christopher James Giordano; and her brother, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Reverend Tommy Jackson and his wife Jeanette of San Antonio, Texas.
The family will be at the Booth residence on Club Forrest Drive in Tennille.
