Terry Lord

October 18, 1946 — October 2, 2025

Mitchell

Mr. Terry Lord, age 78, of Big Creek Road in Mitchell, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Roy Smith and Reverend Weston Williford will officiate, and the staff of May and Smith Funeral Directors will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Terry was born in Dublin and grew up in Wrightsville and Macon. He was the son of the late Martin Talmadge Lord, Jr. and the late Mary Louise Logue Lord. Terry served his country as a member of the National Guard, and was involved in his community, serving as past president of the Tennille Rotary Club. He was employed in the kaolin industry and worked for AIC, but most remember him from his time at Sleepy’s Package Store, which he owned for 33 years, or from his time serving on the staff of May and Smith Funeral Directors. Terry lived life big, and he enjoyed hunting (including killing a 19-point buck), fishing, cruising, and working in his yards. Terry was a people person and would do almost anything he could to help someone else. He loved his dog, cats, chickens and guineas, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and grandchildren, who referred to him as “Anddaddy.” Terry was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Warthen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Teresa Owenby, Shebia Hough, and Terryle Cullens; and nephew, John Michael Todd.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Nona Todd Lord; son, Michael Padgett (Dorothy); daughters Chasity Frazier (Trey) and Tricia Padgett; grandchildren, Anna Padgett, Briar Brantley, and Ally Padgett, all of Mitchell; sister, Cheryl Trobaugh (Ron) of Macon; Brother-in-law, Lewis Todd (Gail) of Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be at Terry and Nona’s residence on Big Creek Road in Mitchell.

The family suggests donations be made in Terry’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
