Thena Hutchings Miller

Mrs. Thena Hutchings Miller, age 97, of Deepstep, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Deepstep United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Reverends, Jason McClendon, Willis Moore and Griffin Thompson will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Jason Hitchcock, Linton Cato, Howard Veal, Chris Hutchings, Daryl Hutchings, William Hutchings, Hal Jones, Melton Jones, Cleve Ed Davis, Roan Miller, Mitch Maddox, Terry Miller, Jeff Veal and Alan Sheppard.

Mrs. Miller was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the daughter of the late Edward Gilmore Hutchings Sr. and the late Mattie Bell Veal Hutchings. She was retired as the bookkeeper for Millers Food Store and she was a former administrative assistant for the George D. Warthen Bank. Mrs. Miller was a long time and active member of the Deepstep United Methodist Church where she served her church in numerous roles including singing in the choir, as a member of the Laura Hall Circle, and chairing the church’s mission program. She was affectionately called “Guppy” by grandchildren.

Survivors are: her children, Edward P. Miller Jr. and his wife Sylvia of Deepstep and Katherine M. Helton and her husband Don of Tennille; grandchildren, Amber M. Sumner and her husband Charles of Dublin, Rachel M. Britt and her husband Shannon of Macon, Jessica T. Miller of Deepstep, Don Helton Jr. and his wife Laura, Andrea Helton and Nichole Helton all of Tennille; eight great grandchildren; her sister-in-law’s Jean M. Sheppard and Frances I. Miller both of Sandersville; and a special caregiver Venida Burden.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
