Thomas Wayne Burns

Mr. Thomas Wayne Burns, age 72, of Warthen, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Minister Marlon Lastinger and Reverend Gary Mimbs will officiate.

Mr. Burns was born in Leesburg Florida, the son of the late James Franklin Burns, Jr. and the late Edna Wester Burns. He was retired from CSX as a Locomotive Engineer. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to fish and hunt.

Survivors include: his wife, Sandra Clark Burns; children, James Owen Burns and his wife Tonya of Rockingham, NC., Lisa Burns Thomas of Hamlet, NC., Melissa Brown Turner and her husband John of Warthen and Blaine Byrd of Wilmington, NC.; seven grandchildren ;and special friends, Richard Harris and Ida Mae Johnson. Wayne is predeceased by his brother, Robert Irving Burns.

The family will be at the Brown/Turner residence at 3718 Bay Springs Road, Warthen and they will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the funeral service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
