Thomas Franklin Smith

d. December 4, 2016

Thomas Franklin “Tommy” Smith of Covington, age 78, passed away peacefully December 4, 2016, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Rich’s Department Store and Mac’s Delivery. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and loved the time spent with his Joy Sunday School class friends, United Methodist Men, helping with Salem’s annual barbeque, singing in the choir, and visiting with the sick and elderly. He absolutely loved his church family and serving the Lord. His greatest love was that for his family. He adored his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to share with others how very proud he was of them. They were truly the apple of his eye. He enjoyed attending family reunions in Sandersville, Georgia, growing and sharing his tomatoes, and cheering for any and all Atlanta sports teams. He was an Atlanta Falcons season ticket holder for over 30 years and loved the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Maitland Smith, brother, Jackie Smith, and sister, Martha Dean Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his children whom he loved so much, Dwayne and Lori Smith of Covington and Eric and Jennifer Smith of McDonough; grandchildren, Lauren Smith and Jackson Smith of Covington, Cooper Smith and Jeremiah Smith of McDonough; sisters, Faye (Bernard) Doolittle and Maitland (Dan) Henry of Sandersville; two nieces, six nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
