Mr. Thomas Elbert Story, age 79, of Green Lane Road, Sandersville, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 following an extended illness. A family only graveside funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Story Family Cemetery on Panther Branch Road. Reverend Mickey Umberhant will officiate.
Mr. Story was born in Glascock County, the son of the late Frank Grady Story and the Late Lois Gray Story. As a young teenager, his family moved to Washington County where Thomas attended school. He began his working career as a meat cutter and salesman for Central Packing Company. Later, Mr. Story worked in law enforcement for the Sandersville Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s office prior to working as an equipment operator for Thiele Kaolin Company. Lastly, he worked as the facilities maintenance manager for Oconee Nursing Home from which he retired. Thomas' favorite thing to do was to be with his dog Rosco riding in his Golf cart. He cherished time with family, especially with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to listen to gospel music and cut jokes with family and friends. When able, Thomas attended the Oconee Church of God.
Survivors are his beloved wife of 59 years, Glenda Kitchens Story; children, Gilbert Lee Story and his wife Michelle, David Allen Story and his wife Tara and Mary Loretta Story all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Allen Story, Ashley Story (Jordy Tingle) and Candice S. Dudley (Brian); and great-grandchildren, Tatum Joy Kennedy, Hunter Michelle Dudley, Cole Dudley, Chevi Dudley and Cheyenne Dudley.
