Mr. Thomas Ray Usry, age 89, of Mitchell, died Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Washington County Extended Facility in Sandersville. A family only graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 28th in the Mitchell City Cemetery. Reverend Bobby Renew and Reverend Fred Garrett will officiate.
Mr. Usry was born and raised in Warrenton the son of the late Leon Usry and the late Lillian Laster Usry. He married his late wife Dorothy Snider Usry at an early age and moved to Glascock County where they established a family farm. Ray loved row cropping, raising cattle and most of all sharing from his huge garden. He worked as a dye setter for JEBCO Inc. for over 30 years from which he retired. Ray loved church and attended the Full Gospel Church in Mitchell. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Usry is predeceased by his son, Danny Ray Usry, granddaughter, Kellie Chalker, son-in-law Robby Jones; daughter-in-law Lisa Usry; and grandson-in-law Coleman "Bud" Pulliam.
Survivors are his daughters, Janie Usry and Debbie Chalker and her husband Ronnie of Mitchell and Alaine Logan Jones of Avera; grandchildren, Tiffany Pulliam, Christie Hayslip, Carrie Usry, Lacey Williams, Ron Chalker and Matthew Chalker; great grandchildren, Ethan, Henry, Landon, Hadley and Dani Rae; and his sister Nora Turner of SC.
