Mrs. Tommie Chalker, age 89, of Sandersville, died Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 27th at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Don Robertson, Dean Robertson, Chris Rogers, Keith Brooking, Hamilton Jones, and William Ingram.
Mrs. Chalker was born and reared in Washington County, the daughter of the late John Thomas Duggan and the late Callie Belle Logue Duggan. She and her husband Calvin Chalker married and moved to Homestead Florida where they would live for many years and raise their family. They created, owned, and operated Calvin Chalker Paving and Mrs. Chalker spent her career managing their business office. She was active in her community as a member of the Homestead Womens Club and the local community concert and theatre association. She loved gardening and growing orchids. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Homestead. Following the death of her second husband, Edwin Elton, Mrs. Chalker returned to her childhood Georgia home to be near family. She continued her love of gardening and was a member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville. Mrs. Chalker cherished her role as a mentor to younger women in her life.
Survivors are her children, Donna Chalker Ingram and her husband William and David Stanley Chalker and his wife Kim all of Homestead Florida; grandchildren, Holly Brooking, Brad Ingram, Heather Jones, Ashley Torbert and Tyler Chalker; nine great grandchildren; and siblings, Mable D. Turner and John Duggan and his wife Barbara all of Tennille and Callie D. Sullivan and her husband Butch of Sandersville.
