Tuttle Wright Barksdale

May 2, 1930 — April 24, 2010

Mr. Tuttle Wright Barksdale, age 79, of Sandersville, died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 27th at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Sandersville. Rev. David Fincher, Rev. Joe Shryock and Rev. Wyman Hodges will officiate. The Washington County Board of Commissioners and the AgGeorgia Farm Credit Board of Directors will serve as honorary groups.

Mr. Barksdale was born on May 2, 1930, the son of the late Henry and Maude Smith Barksdale of Washington County. Mr. Barksdale was a 1947 graduate of the Sandersville High School. He was a farmer and merchant for many years prior to his retirement. He was a former member of the Tennille School Board and the Washington County Board of Education. He served on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Farm Bureau and on the ASCS Board as well as being a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Tennille Rotary Club. Mr. Barksdale served on the Board of Directors for AgGeorgia for over three decades. He was presently completing his fifth term as a Washington County Commissioner. Recently he was honored as “Washington County Citizen of the Year” by the Sandersville Rotary Club at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Banquet. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, as well as a successful businessman and committed civic leader throughout his life.

Survivors include; his wife Eleanor Curry Barksdale, of Sandersville, children, Mary Kaye B. Veal (Sandy) of Tennille, Kim B. Tyson (Ken) of Macon, Tuttle W. Barksdale (Brownie) of Tennille, grandchildren, Noel Veal of Macon, Samuel Veal of Athens, Brittany Tyson of Milledgeville, Matthew Tyson of Macon, Wright Barksdale of Tennille, and Mary Elizabeth Barksdale of Athens and his brother Hiram Barksdale (Holly) of Jacksonville, FL.

Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA. 30322 or to the Antioch Christian Church P.O Box 40, Oconee, GA. 31067.

The family will be at the Barksdale residence 13188 Hwy 24 West Sandersville and will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
